Children's Dentistry

At Wanneroo Dental Centre we believe in introducing dental visits at an early age. Our aim is to make it a fun learning experience for children. Dentistry has come a long way and there is no reason children should be scared to come in for dental visits. During their first visit, we may just have a chat and allow them to have a “ride in the chair” As they get used to the visits most children with happily lie alone for a thorough exam and even have their teeth cleaned. We will check tooth position and jaw development and assess for any dental decay or teeth which may need extra attention.

Early prevention will help maintain your child’s teeth throughout their lives. We do preventive dental treatments such as Fissure Sealants for back molars or teeth with deep grooves to reduce chances of getting cavities and fluoride varnish treatment which have been proven to dramatically reduce the incidence of tooth decay.

As per the Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommendations – as a rule of thumb it is time for a dental visit when your baby’s first tooth becomes visible, or they reach 12 months old – whichever comes first. If you notice anything you think is out of the ordinary before this time it’s better to be safe than sorry, so book an appointment straight away.

Here at Wanneroo Dental Centre, we will take them for a spin in the dental chair, count their teeth, visually examine their teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy.

Making their first appointment brief and enjoyable can help children become accustomed with our environment at an early age and learn that it is not a scary place!

We recommend that youngsters come in for a general check and clean every six months, just like adults. Regular check-ups every six months allow us to discover any problems early on, as well as ensure that youngsters maintain proper dental hygiene.

The more knowledge kids have, the more concerned they get! As a result, we urge that you limit the specifics of the recommended therapy – such as the phrase “needles” – to a bare minimum. We will take the time during the visit to explain all they need to know in a kind manner, making them feel at ease.

We understand the importance of the dental and general health of our children and to ensure their visits to the dentist are a positive, enjoyable experience. Our friendly and understanding team take the time to make sure our young patients are comfortable and informed at all times. Your children will love coming to see us!

The Commonwealth Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a dental benefits programme that gives up to $1,026 in benefits over two years to eligible children aged 2–17 years for basic dental care.

Benefits for basic dental services are capped at $1,026 per child over 2 consecutive calendar years.

If you do not use all of your $1,026 benefit in the first year of eligibility, you can use it in the second year if you are still eligible. Any remaining balance will not be carried forward at the end of the second year.

Child Dental Benefits Schedule services will not count towards the Medicare Safety Net or the Extended Medicare Safety Net thresholds.
