Frequently Asked Questions

We answer some of the most common questions that we get asked at Wanneroo Dental Centre. If you have any questions other than those answered below, please do contact our ever friendly team who will go the extra mile to provide you with an answer.

Often early stages of dental problems are symptom free and if picked up by a regular ongoing care appointment can be treated simply and painlessly. If you wait till something hurts or breaks before you see a dentist, you may find that the problem is worse and more costly to fix than it needed to be.

Wanneroo Dental Centre is a preferred provider of a number of health funds. This allows patients to obtain maximum refunds and less out of pocket expense. The cost of treatment depends on a lot of factors and it can be difficult to quote over the phone. The most thorough way to give you an estimate of treatment costs is to book in for a no obligation consultation where we can give you an estimate with thorough explanation of treatment options and costs and rebates given by your Health Fund provider.

We are a preferred dental provider for HBF, HCF  and have the convenience of HICAPS facilities so that all other health fund claims can be put through at time of payment.

Yes we offer payment plans through Afterpay and ZipPay/Zip Money.

We would have already sent you a welcome email containing instructions of how to find us and a new patient medical questionnaire.

After being greeted by our friendly front office team you will then be asked to provide your health fund card. This allows the Front office team to provide you with an estimate for your appointment as soon as you and our dental team ascertain what is required. It also allows us to process claims to your Health Fund directly to Hicaps. We will ask your permission to take a photo so that we can verify identification before any procedures.

For a new patient examination we conduct a thorough assessment of your dental health including taking photos and any necessary x rays. We do a thorough assessment of your oral tissues to detect and visual changes which in some cases can be a sign of cancerous changes. We will give you an informative and clear assessment of your dental health and then for any necessary treatment give you a full detailed estimate of costs. We endeavour to alway explain all possible options and keep you fully informed regards health fund rebates and costs.

All our staff at Wanneroo Dental Centre are chosen to be extremely empathetic. If you consider that you are an anxious patient please talk to our wonderful caring front office team who will be able to help you determine what steps we can do to help. A lot of nervous patients find that appointments in the morning are really helpful as it allows them to not have the whole day to stew over it. The more information you give us about your fears over the phone mean that we can take steps to make your appointment as easy as possible. If  the noise is an issue we can make sure we have your favourite film ready to play on Netflix. If scaling is the thing which keeps you away we can have on hand our Airflow unit or the “no pain” EMS scaler.

We have a weighted blanket and we can even dim the lights to help with any sensory issues. For patients who have moderate to severe dental anxiety we have also the option to discuss oral anxiolytics (to reduce anxiety) or “Sleep Dentistry” also known as IV Sedation.

The dentists and staff at Wanneroo Dental Centre will help you find a way to be able to get the treatment you need so please do not hesitate to be open and honest with us about your fears – we are happy to help.

Gum bleeding indicates some degree of inflammation (swelling) around the gums. Accumulation of soft plaque as well as the hard deposits (calculus) contain a lot of bacteria near the gum line which cause the gum to become inflamed and subsequently bleed easily when the toothbrush touches them. The early stage of bleeding gums is referred to as Gingivitis. An advanced stage is called periodontal disease or Gum Disease. This is where damaged has been caused to the supporting bone around the root of the tooth and can lead to tooth mobility and eventually loss of the tooth.

A regular active maintenance appointment at Wanneroo Dental centre including a professional clean ensures the hard calculus and soft plaque are removed and the gum health assessed. Removal of deposits along with good brushing, interdental cleaning and flossing will ensure that your gums stay healthy.

Teeth sensitivity can be caused by many reasons, and therefore a careful and thorough assessment is needed, but some main causes are:

  • cracked fillings or teeth
    tooth decay
  • root surface exposure as a result of gum recession
  • irritated tooth nerve from trauma or heavy biting forces including clenching or grinding of teeth.

Tooth sensitivity quite often may be the initial symptom of a developing problem. Once diagnosed and promptly treated, it can be eliminated. However, if left untreated, particularly if caused by decay or cracked teeth and or fillings, it may lead to an abscessed tooth.
