Veneers

Dental veneers are “aesthetic shells” bonded to the fronts of your natural teeth to enhance the overall appearance of your smile. They can be a good option to restore chipped or broken teeth edges, discoloured teeth and close gaps between teeth. Dental veneers can be used to alter the length, shape, size and shade of your teeth to achieve a symmetrical and beautiful smile.

There are two types of veneers available;

  1. Composite resin veneers. These are the more affordable option. Composite resin material is applied to and shaped directly on your teeth. The downside however, they are not as long lasting as porcelain veneers due to the resin material’s tendency to stain and chip over time. The veneers can be repolished and repaired over time so therefore need more maintenance than Porcelain veneers. Composite veneers are usually placed in one visit.
  2. Porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are stronger than resin, more stain resistant and able to mimic the light reflecting properties of natural tooth. The downside of porcelain veneers are that they are irreversible and in some cases can be more destructive to the underlying tooth. Porcelain veneers are usually carried out over 2 or more visits.

How is porcelain veneer treatment performed?

  • Your teeth are prepared by shaving it slightly smaller to make room for the veneers.
  • A dental impression(mould) is then made using a high-quality silicone material.
  • Temporary veneers are made for you chair-side to protect the existing tooth structure.
  • The dental impression is then sent to a local Dental technician who make the custom made veneers in his laboratory. Sometimes we ask that you go to the laboratory to meet him to discuss your requirements and for him to carefully pick the correct shade and shape of the veneers.
  • After 2 weeks, the permanent veneers are then trialled in your mouth and permanently bonded.
